Flooding forces evacuations from three reserves in Manitoba

Flooding has forced hundreds of people to evacuate from three First Nations in southern Manitoba.
The largest evacuation has taken place on the
Peguis First Nation. Some 255 people have left due to heavy flooding, and another 515 are at risk.
About 25 people have evacuated the
Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation and the
Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation. Native leaders say the communities need help to address recurring flood issues.
"These communities are already grappling with difficult living conditions and health issues caused by years of flooding," Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn-A-in-chut Atleo said in a
press release.
This is now a chronic, annual problem and the people need and deserve action to prevent flooding."
Next door in Saskatchewan, about 230 people have been evacuated from the
Cowessess First Nation.
